Association of Surgical Education: Ethics of Surgery Fellow
Stephanie West, MSN, APRN, ACGPNP-C, ACHPN, is a palliative care/hospice (hybrid) nurse practitioner in a busy 26-bed mixed medical-surgical ICU at Christian Northeast Hospital. She is currently the Clinical Lead of Hybrid Nurse Practitioners in ICUs across the BJC system. Prior to this role, she was inpatient Hematology/Oncology at Christian Hospital with Siteman Cancer Center. She is also an active member of the Christian Hospital Ethics Committee. During this time, she has been involved in many situations that have presented ethical challenges. With each instance, her interest in ethics has grown into a passion.
Stephanie applied to the EthoS fellowship to strengthen her knowledge of ethics through formal education and training. She will then be able to bring these concepts back to her practice in the ICU as well as the Ethics Committee. Her hope is to become a trusted professional who will be able to assist her colleagues through difficult situations. She is equally passionate about providing care for the underserved patient population and feels that the knowledge obtained in this fellowship will allow her to provide more resources and support to her patients.
